The College
encourages faculty to create online courses
within their area of expertise. The first
consideration is for courses that are a part of
a certificate, diploma, or degree program
offered online. The first fully online degree
was the Associate in Arts Degree at a Distance (AADL).
Other degree
areas are offered and planned for future online
offerings...see your division dean for more
information on online certificate, diploma, and
degree programs planned for your division.
Steps
for Creating an Online Course:
-
Discuss
your course idea with your department head
and determine the best options for your
course ideas.
-
Fill
out the Approval
Form on the Instruction Development Web
site.
-
The form will be automatically submitted to
the Director of Instructional Development who will start the approval
process. The completed form will be
forwarded to
the appropriate department head for approval
and signature.
-
The
department head will send the approved form
to the division dean who will seek funding
(if requested) and approve, sign, and
forward to the
Executive VP/Chief Instructional Officer for
approval and signature. Funding sources, if
required, will be identified.
-
The form will be returned to the Instructional
Development office in providing a mentor and
coordinating Instructional Design and WebCT
training, as needed.
-
When
the course is ready for publication, your
dean will review the course and complete the Quality
Components of Online Courses Checklist to
assure that all required components are
present within the course management area on
WebCT. The qualified course will then be
added to the Web site and the SIS line
schedule for the future terms, starting with
the term the course will be promoted to the
public. All online courses are offered every
fall, spring and summer term. Some are
offered during the fall and spring 10-week
(C) terms, as well.
