Borrowing Privileges

The PTC Library is open to the public. Borrowing privileges are extended as follows:

Borrowing Library Materials
Any person presenting a Piedmont Technical College identification card or library card who does not owe excessive fines or have lost items may check out circulating materials.

The library also extends limited borrowing privileges to non-student residents of South Carolina and to students of some area colleges. Learn more about area libraries serving PTC students.

PTC students, faculty and staff may also borrow books from participating college and university libraries as outlined in the South Carolina Statewide Borrowing Agreement.

Circulating Books
Students may check out up to five (5) books at one time. Non-students may check out two (2) books at one time. The borrowing period for most library materials is two weeks. Books may be renewed twice if there are no outstanding requests for the materials. Renewals may be done in person, online or by phone.

Circulating Videotapes
Library users may check out up to two videos at one time. The borrowing period for video tapes is one week.

County Center & Distance Learning Students
A daily courier service allows the library to forward circulating library materials and/or photocopies of library materials to students at the county centers.

Overdue Items
If an item is not returned on time, the overdue fine is 10 cents per day per item. The fee for a lost or damaged item is $25. Registration may be delayed until outstanding library fees are paid.

Reference & Reserve Items
Reserve items for classes are kept behind the circulation desk. These materials must be signed for and must be used in the library only. Reference books, magazines and most audio-visual items do not normally circulate to students or continuing education borrowers.
