Library
Collection
Most of the
library collection is housed on the Lex
Walters Campus, Greenwood. The
Laurens County Higher Education Center
also provides a staffed Library Resource
Room, while the Abbeville, Edgefield,
McCormick, Newberry and Saluda County
Centers have rooms stocked with reference
books, popular magazines, paperback books
and access to online resources available
for students who use those facilities.
Books
The
library houses approximately 30,000
books that have primarily been chosen to
support the college's curricula.
Special book collections include
reference, popular fiction and non-fiction,
career resources, ESL and children's books.
Journals,
Magazines & Newspapers
The
library subscribes to 300+ magazines and
journals and 19 area and national
newspapers. Online and
print indexes are available to help you
locate articles from these and other
periodicals.
Audiovisual
(AV) Materials
The
AV collection includes hundreds of DVDs, videotapes, compact disks and audiocassettes. While some
AV items are restricted to library use only, most
may be checked out by students. The library also offers viewing and listening rooms that
are equipped with DVD/VHS players and can
accommodate up to 5-6 people.
Electronic
Books
The
library has purchased access to
30,000+ e-books. E-books are
electronic versions of books in
print. Users need only
visit the library once in person or use
our online request form to register an
e-book account. After users are
registered, they will enjoy anytime,
anyplace Web access to these
resources.
Online
Databases
The
library offers numerous general and
specialized online database
resources.
The databases contain journal and magazine
articles, newspaper articles, encyclopedia
entries and more. These resources
are accessible from any college facility
without a password. Many are also
accessible from off-campus but require
passwords.
English
as a Second Language (ESL) Collection
The
Library offers a small collection of books
for readers who are learning English as
their second language. Books are
typically abridged versions of popular and
classic literature.
Children's
Book Collection
The
library has a collection of children's
books that supports the Piedmont's early
childhood education programs.
The
PTC Library also partners with the Greenwood
Public Library to offer a small
collection of books for young children.
The purpose of this collection is to offer
students who are also parents a convenient
source of literature for their children.
We encourage students to read to their
children whenever possible.
