Faculty Resources
For a
general overview of library services for
faculty, please access the PDF version
of our
2007-2008 Faculty Brochure.
College faculty are key to introducing
students to the library and promoting
information literacy. The library
encourages faculty to make assignments
that require students to explore a variety
of library resources. Faculty are
also encouraged to use the services
described below:
Web-Based
Activities
Educators
worldwide are using Web-based learning
activities in both their traditional and
online classes. Visit the following
resources—developed for a fall 2002
faculty training session— to discover
why!
Subject
Bibliographies
The
library staff is happy to compile subject
bibliographies for you or your students. Studying Napoleon? In minutes, we
can produce a list of Napoleon-related
resources in the library.
Pathfinders
Our
"printable" Pathfinders are
research guides created to complement your
assignments and help students find
information independently.
Pathfinders direct students toward
appropriate resources and offer search
tips for accessing the specific
information that they need.
The menu
below offers a selection of existing
Pathfinders. You will need the free Acrobat
Reader plug-in to view these
documents. You may also contact
the library to have a Pathfinder
developed for your topic.
Library
Tours
& Instruction
Library
staff members will arrange to meet with
your students to introduce them to the
library and its resources. Most
sessions take place Room 205K of the
library and are followed by a tour and/or
activity. Librarians are also
willing to lead sessions in PEN Rooms,
computer labs, or at the County Centers.

Reserve
Collection
Instructors
wishing to share resources (library or
personal) with their students may place
them "on reserve." To
place materials on reserve, faculty should
simply bring materials to a library staff
member. Item information will be
recorded, and the item will be shelved
behind the Circulation Desk. Once an
item has been given reserve status, it may
not be removed from the library.
Students should be instructed to request
reserve materials from staff member and to
sign a log that allows the staff to track
the item at all times.
Collection
Development Opportunities
The
library staff works hard to maintain a
collection that fulfills the need of
students and faculty in every curriculum
offered by the college. This task is
best accomplished when faculty actively
participate in the selection process.
If you have requests for library
purchases, please contact
Cindy Davies at (864)
941-8442 or
Meredith Daniel at (864) 941-8657
or
complete our online
suggestion form.
If you do
not have a specific request, but are
concerned with a gap in the collection,
the library staff can also provide you
with catalogs and other resources for
identifying items for purchase.
Special
Borrowing Privileges
Faculty
and staff members may arrange extended
borrowing privileges with the library
staff for resources that are needed longer
than the standard borrowing periods.
Faculty members are also allowed to check
out most magazines, journals and reference
items.
Plagiarism
As
the Internet has increased in size and
popularity, so has the temptation for
students to use technology to cheat or
commit plagiarism. The resources
below share tips for defining, preventing,
and detecting plagiarism:
