Winthrop’s
new general education program will be phased
in over the 2003-2004 and the 2004-2005
academic years. Students may move to the new
requirements in the fall of 2004. Winthrop’s
policy for Grandfathering transfer students
into the 2003/2004 catalog is as follows:
Students who
transfer into Winthrop University prior to
Fall 2006 will be able to graduate from
Winthrop under the degree requirements in the
2003-2004 catalog if they meet the following
conditions:
- They began
their post-secondary education prior to the
Fall 2004 term;
- They
transfer a minimum of 24 credit hours and
enroll at Winthrop prior to the Fall 2006
term.
Winthrop’s new
general education program is composed of 3 core
areas: the critical skills, skills for a common
experience and for thinking across disciples,
and developing critical skills and applying them
to disciplines.
In the new program, there are currently eight
(8) General Education courses that have writing
components. One major change in the general
education requirements is that English 102 can
only be used as a general education elective.
The GNED 102,
Human Experience course, is required of all
students regardless of their major fields of
study or their career goals.
