The first courses in the Piedmont Technical College Collaborative School of Maintenance (CSM) program will kick off February 1 at the Lex Walters Campus in Greenwood.
An industry-driven, collaborative training initiative, the CSM provides local employers with the opportunity to work together, deferring the cost of customized maintenance training that is company-specific. The CSM schedule is flexible to accommodate shift work, plant emergencies and special circumstances. Classes are offered four days per week, three times per day and on a rotating basis.
“The uniqueness of this program allows area companies to gain valuable input into their employee training efforts without having to fill an entire classroom,” said Art Bush, program manager. “Everything in the CSM is being designed to specifically meet each participating company’s needs and the needs of their employees.”
CSM students will be able to complete training at an effective pace, bringing practical skills back to the workplace immediately. Among the courses currently scheduled to run this year are Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, Fluid Power and Programmable Logic Controllers and Digital Electronics.
“This initiative is a valuable resource for employers to use as training budgets are tight, but the need for training is still there and, in some cases, even greater than before,” said Bush.
Employers may learn more about the CSM training program by contacting Bush at (864) 941-8412 or e-mailing
