Purpose Statement – The mission of the Electronic Engineering Department is to provide an accessible, affordable and quality education that prepares students for the highly skilled and technological workplace in engineering. The department utilizes on-going assessment strategies and teaching methods the support continuous improvement in instruction, learning opportunities, support services and management practices.
Program Student Learning Outcomes:
Apply basic knowledge in electronics, electrical circuit analysis, electrical machines, microprocessors, and programmable logic controllers.
Conduct experiments and then analyze and interpret results.
Apply basic mathematical, scientific, and engineering concepts to technical problem solving.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of drafting and computer usage, including the use of one or more computer software packages
Communicate effectively orally, visually and in writing.
Work effectively in teams.
Demonstrate an understanding of professional, ethical and social responsibilities.
Have a respect for diversity and knowledge of contemporary professional, societal and global issues.
Recognize the need for lifelong learning and be prepared to continue their education through formal and informal study.
Apply creativity through the use of project-based work to design circuits, systems or processes.
Have a commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
Recent high school graduates should be asked if they have participated in Project Lead the Way. If so, high school transcripts should be forwarded to Sandy Warner for possible exemption credit.
EGR 101 is a new course starting spring 2012, specially designed for students who are enrolled in MAT 152, MAT 101 or MAT 102 and not yet able to begin engineering couresework requiring higher math. It is a one credit hour (one contact hour) course for all engineering majors.
Students taking MAT 102 or higher may enroll in EET 111.
Students who need MAT, ENG or RDG 032 courses as prerequisites should not enroll in EET, EGR, or EGT courses.
To enroll in EGR 130, students must have completed MAT 102 or have placement scores indicating readiness for MAT 110.
The English sequence is either ENG 165 & ENG 101, or for students planning transfer, ENG 101 & 102. Advise for prerequisite math, reading, and English courses as indicated by placement scores.
EGT 151 is preferable over EGT 152 for EET students because they are probably going to use AutoCAD in the workplace instead of Inventor.
When students enter this program with Project Lead the Way course credit in high school, they may receive the following credit:
PLTW High School Course = PTC Course
Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) = EGT 152
Principles of Engineering (POE) = EGR 130
