Gene Hancock was the first President of the
Piedmont Technical College Alumni Association!
Elected in 1971, he served faithfully during the group’s
formative years and truly “blazed a trail” for future leaders.
In addition he has been a loyal and supportive member over the
years. Gene has also been a
high profile community leader, serving for the past 18 years as a member
(and chair) of the Greenwood Commission of Public Works (CPW). His election as a commissioner was a logical corollary of the
fact that he was employed by the Commission for 30 years until his
retirement in 1986. His
service in this capacity has been most productive, as the Commission has
expanded its capacities to meet the demands of community growth, in terms
of residential population and business development.
