Financial Aid Recipient Rights and Responsibilities

Rights

  • Information given to the Financial Aid Office will be treated confidentially.

  • If you have returned your application materials by you priority deadline, your chances of receiving every requested financial aid program for which you are eligible will be greater.

  • Those students who do not meet the deadline dates can be considered only for any remaining funds.

  • You may appeal Piedmont Technical College’s financial aid award if you feel there are circumstances that warrant review of your situation.  In certain circumstances, you may have your financial need reviewed through an appeal process if your circumstances change during the academic year. You should contact the Financial Aid Office if you feel your calculated financial need should be reviewed, and for information regarding what types of circumstances may be reviewed and/or appealed.

 
Student Responsibilities

  • If you are accepting any federal monies as part of your financial aid award, you must sign a Piedmont Technical College Federal Certification Form.

  • If required, you must register with selective service at www.sss.gov.  

  • If your FAFSA information has been selected for verification by the federal government, you will need to

  • submit, upon request of the Office of Financial Aid, income tax return copies and other required

  • documents. This process may occur as part of regular verification or as a part of the internal monitoring

  • process.  This information should be returned within 10 calendar days.

  • You must sign your FAFSA confirming the accuracy of the information you provide. Information found to be incorrect may serve as the basis for cancellation of aid and/or for disciplinary action.

  • If you owe money from a prior over award of federal funds, you must repay it. You are not eligible for

  • financial aid if you owe money from federal funds to any institution.

  • You must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by Piedmont Technical College for financial aid eligibility.

  • You must repay all loans according to your established payment schedule. You are not eligible for financial aid if you are in default on a Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Stafford Loan, or Federal PLUS from any college or university.

  • You must report any additional financial aid (scholarships, grants, and loans including graduate or undergraduate assistantships or fellowships, and other educational tuition assistance) which you receive but which is not listed on your current award notification from Piedmont Technical College.
