Cardiology is one of today’s most
rapidly-growing health care industries. And
Piedmont Technical College is once again leading
the state of South Carolina into a new frontier with a
new Cardiovascular Technology program to
prepare Cardiovascular Technicians.
The Cardiovascular Technician is a health care
professional, who, at the direction of a
licensed physician, performs screenings and
tests which are used in the diagnosis, treatment
and follow-up of patients with cardiovascular
disease. Cardiovascular Technology is a title
used to describe two basic areas of expertise:
Invasive Cardiology and
Non-Invasive Cardiology.
Invasive Cardiovascular Technologists
work in cardiac catheterization laboratories, open heart
surgical suites and cardiac research facilities.
They assist the cardiologist or cardiac surgeon
in performing diagnostic and interventional
cardiac catheterization and angiography
procedures.
Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Sonographers
utilize the most up-to-date ultrasound technologies to provide
diagnostic information to referring physicians
that enables them to diagnosis and treat major
vascular and heart diseases.

For additional flexibility and convenience,
clinical experiences are available in areas
throughout the state.
