Donna Foster

Hi!  I am Donna Foster, Dean of General Education and Transitional Studies at Piedmont Technical College.  My responsibilities include coordinating the Associate in Arts and Associate in Sciences programs, designing and implementing the transitional mathematics courses, teaching mathematics courses both traditionally and on-line as needed, and advising Associate of Arts students. In addition, I am active in several state organizations:  SCCTM, where I serve as President-Elect. In December 2006, I completed the Leadership in Higher Education Certificate at USC with others in the technical college system.

After receiving a BS in Science Teaching - Mathematics from Clemson University  in 1983, I began teaching at Greenwood High School.  In December of 1985, I earned a Masters of Education in Secondary Education, Mathematics from Clemson. Shortly after that, I began teaching math as an adjunct instructor at Piedmont, becoming Coordinator of Developmental Math in 1992, receiving the SC Governor's Professor of the Year Award in 1996 and chairing the  Developmental and Transitional Studies Department at PTC in 1998.  Other awards and honors include: SC Business and Professional Women Young Careerist and PTC Presidential Medallion.

Publications include authoring a chapter titled "Active Learning" with Linda Shirley, special projects coordinator at the National Dropout Prevention Center.  The chapter was published in Helping Students Graduate by Jay Smink and Franklin P. Schargel. Other writing experience includes co-authoring a book with Dr. Curtis Miles on cooperative learning. I have written articles for the Math Mate, SCCTM's official magazine. Recently  I helped to develop the college Quality Enhancement Plan: "Enriching Student Learning through Technology Readiness."

When I am not working I enjoy snow skiing, cruising the lake, attending college football games, watching (or attending) Atlanta Braves baseball games, and reading.  I am married and have a cat! I  have two  nephews, five nieces, and one great nephew and enjoy visiting them.
