PTC to Host She’s Somebody’s Hero with Diana Jordan

Women have always been heroes. They do extraordinary things, but so often, we think of them as ordinary. They shape the world, trying to make it kinder, softer, more compassionate, and a more beautiful place to live.

To celebrate women, Piedmont Technical College will host “She’s Somebody’s Hero featuring Diana Jordan” Friday, May 15.

New Board Members Named to PTC Foundation

The Piedmont Technical College Foundation has named three new members to its board for the coming year. They are Jimmy Burke of Greenwood, Jeff Wilson of Abbeville and William Whitfield of Saluda. Whitfield was named to the board as a representative for the Piedmont Technical College Area Commission.

Burke is the area operations manager for South Carolina and Georgia for CenturyLink. He and his wife, Tracy, have four children - Kelli Phiffer, James Burke, Jr., Amanda Burke and Raine Bradley.

Piedmont Tech Offers a Piece of History in Abbeville

Piedmont Technical College officially opened its new facility in Abbeville nearly one year ago, and now the PTC Foundation is offering an opportunity for residents to leave their own legacy at the campus.

In the historic tradition of a legacy of bricks in Abbeville County, the PTC Foundation is offering residents the opportunity to purchase an engraved brick at the entrance of the facility to commemorate the opening of the new Abbeville Campus.

Engineering Technology Students Are Prepared for Rewarding Careers

Piedmont Technical College offers a number of programs that connect graduates with careers after completing a two-year degree. For students who are fascinated by the big impact technology has on our lives, and enjoy a hands-on approach to problem-solving, that career could likely be engineering technology.

Sandy Warner, department head of PTC’s Engineering Technology program, explains that engineering is at the heart of every facet of modern life. Engineers develop the concepts for solving problems and work to improve existing technology.

Piedmont Tech Associates Honored at State Conference

Three Piedmont Technical College employees have been named Outstanding Educators for the 2014 – 2015 academic year and were honored at a recent South Carolina Technical Education Association conference. 

This year’s honorees are Tracy Wright, faculty; Lynn Lanouette, staff; and Pleshette Elmore, administrative.

Wright began teaching at Piedmont Tech five years ago after spending time working as a teaching assistant in the chemistry department at Furman University. She found that she enjoyed the difference she was making in the lives of the students.

Bartanus Recognized with Innovator of the Year Award

Lisa Bartanus, corporate training director in Continuing Education at Piedmont Technical College, has been awarded the A. Wade Martin Innovator of the Year Award from the South Carolina Technical Education Association (SCTEA).

PTC Recognized for Excellence at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing

Piedmont Technical College’s work with the businesses in Laurens County through the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) has won the College another national recognition.

PTC was selected as a finalist for a prestigious 2015 Bellwether Award, which recognizes outstanding, innovative programs and practices that are successfully leading community colleges into the future.

Academic Honor Students Recognized for 2014 Fall Semester

Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2014 fall semester have earned inclusion on the President’s List. To be named to the list, students must be full time and earn a term GPA of 4.00. Students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the college president.

Piedmont Tech Kicks Off Black History Month Activities

Piedmont Technical College will host a series of Black History Month events at the college that include music, photography and poetry.

Ledford Elected to S.C. Campus Law Enforcement Association Board

Terry Ledford, director of Campus Police and Security at Piedmont Technical College, has been elected to serve as part of the executive board for the South Carolina Campus Law Enforcement Association (SCCLEA).

“This is an extremely important organization and I am honored to be asked to serve,” said Ledford.
