Fall Commencement Held at Piedmont Tech

Piedmont Technical College to Hold Commencement December 12

graduationPiedmont Technical College will be holding fall commencement exercises on December 12. 

Commencement exercises will begin at 5 p.m. in the James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood. Due to limited seating, tickets will be required for all guests attending the graduation ceremony. Each ticketholder, including children, will be entitled to one seat.

Instant Admissions Days Return to Piedmont Tech

Piedmont Technical College will once again be offering Instant Admission Days this fall to make enrolling in college easy.

Instant Admission Day will be Thursday, November 21 for spring registration. A second Instant Admission Day will be January 2. Admissions and financial aid counselors will be on hand to help students through the entire enrollment process in just one day.

“We wanted to provide students with a one-stop option to enroll in classes,” said Tanisha Latimer, dean of enrollment management.

Health Science Programs Reach 100 Percent Pass Rate

Recent graduates of four of Piedmont Technical College’s health science programs have achieved the elusive mark of perfection.

Students who graduate from the health science programs are required to take national certification exams to enter their fields. Over the past year, students at Piedmont Tech have excelled. The respiratory care program, pharmacy technology program and the radiologic technology program all earned a 100 percent pass rate for the most recent class of graduates. The surgical technology program had a 95 percent pass rate.

Spring VIP Opens at Piedmont Tech

Officials at PTC are looking forward to a good turnout for the spring term as the VIP registration opens. 

Registration for the spring term began November 1and runs through November 26. Students who register during this period become “VIPs” and receive their first choice of classes and a $25 registration fee waiver.

 “We have a wide array of offerings in all of our programs,” said Tanisha Latimer, dean of enrollment management.

Latimer said the big push is to have students register early before the rush of the holiday season.

Piedmont Technical College Signs Agreements with Columbia College

Piedmont Technical College and Columbia College recently signed two articulation agreements that will allow students to seamlessly continue their education.

The first agreement will create a Bridge program for students who would like to begin their studies at PTC, and then transfer to Columbia College. The second agreement will establish a bachelor’s degree program through Columbia College on the campus of Piedmont Tech.

PTC Kicks-off Annual One Book, One College Series

Piedmont Technical College will kick off its One Book, One College series November 5 with an introduction to this year’s spotlight collection of poetry, Poetry 180: A Turning Back to Poetry. The dazzling new anthology of 180 contemporary poems, selected and introduced by America’s Poet Laureate, Billy Collins, is inspired by the poem-a-day program with the Library of Congress.

New Board Member Named to PTC Foundation

The Piedmont Technical College Foundation has named Mason Speer of Abbeville as a new board member for the coming year.

Speer is the former fire chief for the City of Abbeville Fire Department. He is a graduate of Abbeville High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Lander University where he was a charter member of the Blue Key National Honor Society.

Workshop Provided for Funeral Service Students

The Funeral Service Education department at Piedmont Technical College is continuing its path to becoming the premier training facility for current and future funeral directors in the Southeast. The program is now working to make the students more job-ready by bringing in experts to assist with resume and interview skills.

BBQ Dinner Thanks Area Officials

The Piedmont Technical College Area Commission recently hosted a barbecue dinner at Bermuda’s at The Links at Stoney Point, for local, state and federal legislators to raise awareness of PTC’s vital role in the work force development of South Carolina’s Lakelands region. The event was attended by more than 130 people, including legislative officials, the Piedmont Technical College Area Commission and members of the PTC faculty and staff.
