Newberry Workforce Opportunity Summit Being Held at PTC

Piedmont Technical College, Newberry County Career Center and Newberry County Economic Development are coming together to sponsor the Newberry Workforce Opportunity Summit Wednesday, March 5 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Newberry County Campus.

The summit will be a means for businesses in Newberry to share their needs with Piedmont Tech and see what training opportunities exist both through curriculum programs and continuing education. A representative from ApprenticeshipSC will also be there to share information on apprenticeship opportunities.

“There are jobs available and there are people looking for jobs, but the two don’t always mesh,” said Amanda Richardson, associate dean at the Newberry County Campus. “We know these industries need qualified workers and Piedmont Tech would like to explore how we can assist them.”

The summit will explore options in all areas from engineering technology to health care to the new mechatronics technology program beginning in the fall. Following a general session, participants will break into round-table discussion groups with representatives from Piedmont Tech and the Newberry County Career Center to address each specific field.

“This event is meant to foster collaboration,” said Richardson. “We want to ensure that local employers are aware of the resources Piedmont Technical College provides for their benefit.”

The summit is open to any interested businesses. For more information on the workforce summit or to RSVP, contact Richardson at (803) 768-8150 or email to richardson.a@ptc.edu
