Dale Smoke

Hello! I am Dale Smoak, Department Head for Natural Sciences at Piedmont Technical College. In that capacity, my responsibilities include coordination of course offerings in the areas of astronomy, biology, chemistry, physical science, and physics. Personally, I usually teach the human anatomy and physiology courses and the university transfer biology courses. I also coordinate the Plus One program with Lander University. This program allows full time students to apply to take an extra course at Lander. Please contact your academic advisor or me if you’d like more information about that program.

After completing a BS in zoology from Clemson University, I entered graduate school at the University of South Carolina. I earned a MS in developmental biology from USC and returned to Clemson to work on my doctorate. I earned the doctorate in Animal Physiology in 1984. After that I did a postdoctoral study of avian parasitology at the University of Georgia. I left UGA to teach at what was then Lander College, and moved to Piedmont Technical College in 1986.

In my personal time, I greatly enjoy college athletics. The Tigers are my team, but I enjoy watching a good game no matter who’s playing! I enjoy doing yard work and grow a variety of plants, both indoors and out. I’m married with two children and four cats. When I’m done with my yard work in the summer, I enjoy sitting by a swimming pool or lake reading a novel. I’m a member of the YMCA, and you’ll often find me there in an aerobics class. I enjoy canoeing and camping when I can fit it in. I like to play bridge but usually play on Yahoo with folks from around the world. I’m also a member of Harris United Methodist Church where I teach the Randy Fleming Sunday School class and am president of the United Methodist Men’s group.

Here's some of my favorite links on the web.

· Discovery A great place to look at all sorts of things about the natural world.

· Yahoo!  Get a yahoo username and check out the games section!  My wife hates bridge, so here's where I play. There’s also a great index of topics in science and several other areas.

· Clemsonsports has lots of stuff about my favorite team.

· Check out Piedmont Tech's homepage and you'll find lots of useful information about us.

· Dogpile A very good metasearch engine to find answers to specific questions.
