Piedmont Technical College

Piedmont Technical College has been awarded nearly $600,000 as part of a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The grant, awarded through the NSF program Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM), will fund 130 scholarship awards over the next four years in an effort to increase recruitment and retention.

Instructors in the welding program at Piedmont Technical College recently traveled to Cleveland to receive specialized training on the program’s Lincoln Robotic Welding Education Cell trainer.

If Tanisha Latimer could be a professional student, that would be her job. But, she’s doing the next best thing as registrar at Piedmont Technical College.

“I love working in higher education,” she said. “I love to see the students come in, unsure of what they’re doing, and see them develop.”

For a kid, it’s hard to play when it’s hard to breathe. But the respiratory care students at Piedmont Technical College are working to make it a little bit easier.

The gunsmithing class at Piedmont Technical College recently held a fundraising drawing to help the program. The prize for the drawing was a Lyman .50 caliber rifle, “Great Plains” model with Iron sights and all the necessary accessories. The winner of the rifle was Paulette Ross, right, pictured with program coordinator Bob Koster.

Judy Daulton, a business instructor at Piedmont Technical College, has been selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in Accounting Education an honor which is presented by the Two-Year Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA).

Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2011 spring semester have earned inclusion on the President’s List. To be named to the list, students must be full-time and earn a term GPA of 4.00. Students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the college president.

Twenty rising 8th and 9th grade students recently participated in Piedmont Technical College’s ninth Engineering and Industrial Technology camp. Students were introduced to technology with hands-on activities, exploring science, engineering and industrial technology topics with activities in various technology fields, such as robotics, computer-aided drafting, mechatronics and electronics.

Karla Gilliam has stepped to the forefront of education with a new innovative use of the ePortfolio tool in Piedmont Technical College’s Desire2Learn (D2L) web-based platform for online learning. She recently presented on using the ePortfolio at the international D2L Fusion Users conference in Denver, a presentation that caught the attention of many of the participants including the CEO of D2L.
