Darren Jones is on his way to fulfilling a dream that began as a sixth grade student researching career options. The Greenwood native has been recruited to work as the operations manager for Terry Funeral Home in Philadelphia.
Students, faculty and staff at Piedmont Technical College participated in an Open Mic Poetry Reading in celebration of Black History Month. Presenters included guest poet Tavis Brunson, a member of The Concrete Generation and Touch One Productions, a collective of artists based currently in Charlotte, NC. The annual event is sponsored by the Ebony Club.
The cardiovascular technology program at Piedmont Technical College recently sponsored A New Start for a Healthy Heart, a community event that included a blood drive, blood pressure checks and educational information for the public. The event also offered Heart Healthy Tips by area health professionals, such as Dr.
Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2010 fall term have earned inclusion on the President’s List. To be named to the list, students must be full-time and earn a term GPA of 4.00. Students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the college president.
As part of its continuing efforts to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the engineering technology program at Piedmont Technical College recently celebrated National Engineers Week by inviting high school students to learn more about the career.
Piedmont Technical College has long prepared technicians to work in the continually advancing field of computer technology. The computer technology program is expanding that reach through its club activities.
More than 25 colleges and universities were in attendance recently at a College Transfer Fair sponsored by Piedmont Technical College. The fair was provided to give students information on special bridge programs and transfer pathways.
The building construction technology program at Piedmont Technical College is near completion for its fourth house project and it has truly become the “house that PTC built.”
Duke Energy South Carolina recently made a generous contribution to the Piedmont Technical College Foundation. Seventy new members were recently inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at Piedmont Technical College. Phi Theta Kappa was established in 1918 to honor two-year college students and boasts more than 1,200 chapters today. The Carolinas region includes 75 active chapters in the two-state area. Piedmont Tech’s Omega Chi chapter became the first among South Carolina’s technical colleges in 1974.
