Recent graduates of Piedmont Technical College’s nursing program at the Greenwood campus were recognized in a pinning ceremony in August.

The Shaw Group recently made a generous donation to the Piedmont Technical College Foundation toward the new Center for Advanced Manufacturing in Laurens County. The donation will assist with establishing a welding lab in Phase II of the construction. Pictured are, from left, Joe Harrison, general manager for B.F. At Piedmont Technical College’s recent summer commencement exercises, outstanding students from each of the college’s seven supporting counties were honored for academic achievement.

Piedmont Technical College president Dr. Ray Brooks, back center, honored six college associates with the Presidential Medallion, the institution’s most prestigious award, at PTC’s recent commencement exercises. Instituted in 1991 during the college’s silver anniversary celebration, the medallions recognize individuals who have made significant contributions toward excellence in education.

Piedmont Technical College President Dr. Ray Brooks has named Dr. Donna Foster the college’s Associate Vice President of Institutional Assessment and Compliance.

Foster joined the college in 1992 as the developmental mathematics coordinator and a member of the math faculty. Most recently, she served as dean of arts and sciences.

The new PTC Center for Advanced Manufacturing held its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house. More than 200 people braved the stormy weather to tour the new facility in Laurens County.

"This project resulted from the combined effort of a lot of organizations working together toward a common goal, a goal that will ultimately provide good jobs to a lot of our fellow South Carolina citizens," said Dr. Ray Brooks, president of Piedmont Tech.

Representatives from Piedmont Technical College, readySC and the ZFGroup took advantage of the Open House festivities at the new Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) in Laurens to solidify the agreement between the three entities concerning all training for the company.

“This agreement that confirms our commitment to work collaboratively to provide the training for ZF employees,” said Susan Heath, area director for readySC.

The Multipurpose building at Piedmont Technical College was the setting for the culmination of many dreams for the more than 300 Piedmont Technical College graduates who took center stage in two commencement ceremonies.

Dr. Ray Brooks, president, welcomed graduates, family and guests to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates.

Piedmont Technical College will be holding two summer commencement exercises on August 2. 

Commencement exercises will begin at 3 p.m. for Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, business and information technology, industrial and engineering technology graduates. A 7 p.m. ceremony will be held for health science and nursing graduates. Both commencement exercises will be held in the Multipurpose building at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood. 

The partnership formed between Piedmont Technical College and Laurens District 55 has proven to be a successful venture and the third offering of the program is now open for registration.
