Career Tracks: Office Management

The Office Management major develops basic office skills necessary to obtain employment in an office environment.

Additionally, coursework in management and accounting provides the basis for advancement and further professional development.


Graduates in this field may be required to:

  • plan, direct, coordinate and supervise work of office employees
  • assign responsibilities to office staff
  • determine priorities and scheduling of work to be done
  • establish procedures to be followed
  • prepare and submit budgets and reports to company executives
  • supervise employee training programs
  • typing; computer skills; some accounting

Working Conditions

Graduates  in this field commonly experience:

  • work inside; office
  • work in cooperation with others
  • work under little direct supervision
  • complete considerable paperwork
  • work under stress to meet deadlines
  • some overtime / night / weekend work may be needed
