Two awarded the M. John and Drenda Heydel Respiratory Therapy Scholarship

John and Drenda Heydel Respiratory Therapy Scholarship. The $1,000 annual scholarship, named in honor of John Heydel, center, and his wife Drenda, is available to first and second year students enrolled in the Respiratory Therapy program at Piedmont Technical College. Heydel, a former respiratory therapist, is the retired Self Regional Healthcare President and CEO. 

Teaching, a New Experience for Amaya

Engineering was always the dream career for Evan Amaya. He just never planned to teach it.

“I never thought I would ever teach in a million years,” Amaya said. “It’s not something that I ever considered doing.”

Pharmacy Technology Program Director Wins State Award

Clay Sprouse, pharmacy technology program director at Piedmont Technical College, has been named the 2015 South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SCSHP) Pharmacy Technician of the Year.

“This is a tremendous honor to be recognized by your peers from across the state,” Sprouse said.

Piedmont Tech Honors Program Broadens Horizons in Costa Rica

The students in the Honors Program at Piedmont Technical College are living La Pura Vida – the pure life.

Thirteen students and five faculty members traveled to Costa Rica during spring break to broaden their horizons, learn about other cultures and provide community service. The trip was one of the enrichment opportunities available for students in the program.

“This was an experience you don’t get often in a lifetime,” said Toby Boster, an associate in arts student from Newberry. “You get the educational experience and the cultural exposure.”

Piedmont Tech Students Named to Academic All-State

Two Piedmont Technical College students were recently among those named to the Phi Theta Kappa South Carolina All-State Academic Team. Malaurie Hullings of Plum Branch and Kenneth Washington of Hodges were among the 29 students honored at a ceremony in Columbia.

Hullings and Washington are joining an elite group. Less than one percent of America’s six million two-year college students have distinguished themselves with this superior level of academic achievement and service to their colleges and communities.

Outstanding Students Honored at Piedmont Technical College Graduation

At Piedmont Technical College’s recent spring commencement exercises, outstanding students from each of the college’s seven supporting counties were honored for academic achievement. 


Piedmont Tech PBL Attends Leadership Conference, Wins Awards

Four Piedmont Technical College students recently attended the Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference in Charleston. The conference allowed students to compete in leadership events, share their successes, and learn new ideas about shaping the future of their career through workshops and exhibits.
