PTC Kicks-off One Book, One College Series
Piedmont Technical College will kick off its One Book, One College series Nov. 2 with an introduction to this year’s spotlight novel, “The Things They Carried” by Tim O'Brien.
As a part of the college’s eighth annual One Book, One College series, the library will host weekly programs addressing the collection of short stories about the men of Alpha Company during the Vietnam War.
For the month of November, the library will present a photography display titled “At Ease: Daily Life in Vietnam." The exhibit features 15 images taken by military personnel and spotlights the non-combat activities of enlisted Marines during the war.
Other events for the annual series include The Best of “Tour of Duty.” As “The Things They Carried” does, this groundbreaking television show which ran from 1987-1990 depicts the Vietnam War through the eyes of a single platoon, the diverse men of Bravo Company. Critically-acclaimed episodes will be shown in Piedmont Tech’s library, room 216K at 3 p.m. on Nov. 2, 12 and 23. There will also be a reading from O’Brien’s book by a variety of PTC faculty, staff and administrators on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. A reception will be held afterwards.
The public is cordially invited to attend all events in the Piedmont Technical College library. All events are free and refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Meredith Daniel at (864) 941-8441.
