Horticulture, Construction Technology Students Learn About Risks of Digging and SC811 Resource

Piedmont Technical College (PTC) horticulture and building construction students last month learned the real dirt on accidental utility line ruptures and how to prevent them. It’s a growing concern. A recent investigation by Piedmont Natural Gas in North Carolina found a 40% increase in leaks caused by a contractor or other third party. Construction is up in the region, and PTC Horticulture Program Director Daniel Greenwell saw the need to help inform students who share the common risk of digging or excavation in their work about South Carolina 811.

Piedmont Tech Faculty Get Creative to Save Students Money on Textbooks

Would it be considered extravagant for a young college student to purchase a high-end, 55-inch, flat-screen TV? Every year? Perhaps. But many college students are spending at least as much annually on textbooks and course materials. In fact, the College Board recently reported that the average U.S. college student spent about $1,298 on books and supplies during the last academic year. Convinced that that sort of expense is not reasonable, many college officials are embracing a concept known as Open Educational Resources (OER). 

Scholarship Expansions Allow More to Attend PTC Tuition-Free

The SC Technical College System (SCTCS) recently took action to double the award for the SC Workforce and Industrial Needs Scholarship (SC WINS) and increase the allowable award for the Lottery Tuition Assistance (LTA). 

Instant Admission Day Set for November 20 in Greenwood

Admissions and financial aid counselors in Greenwood will be on hand from 9 a.m. top 5 p.m. on Nov. 20 to help students get accepted and complete the enrollment process quickly for the spring 2020 semester. Students will leave Instant Admission Day already enrolled and prepared to start classes this spring.
