Nicholas Blackwell

After receiving suggestions from family and help from an academic advisor at the college, he chose Cardiovascular Technology.

“Once I got into the CVT program, I became fascinated with the function of the heart”

Not only did his interest in the program grow as he continued his studies, Blackwell also realized just how important his learning environment was in helping him obtain the skills he needed.

“I had teachers who truly cared about the success of their students and that encouraged me to work hard toward my goals,” said Blackwell.

Melissa Raugh

Melissa Raugh knows that just because you put your dreams on hold doesn’t mean you can’t achieve them.

Raugh always knew she wanted to go into massage therapy. After completing high school, she made the decision to start a family. Now that her children are grown, she has made the decision to pursue her dreams.

“I chose to be a stay-at-home mom for my children and it proved to be a huge blessing,” she said.

General Health Care

Program Information

To provide the broad education necessary for the development of this understanding, Piedmont Technical College and area health care facilities cooperatively provide students with excellent opportunities in didactic and clinical experiences.  The overall objective of these programs is to provide quality education that will lead to highly proficient, competent graduates. The clinical phase of instruction is an integral and important part of all Health Science programs.

Precious Logan

Precious Logan always dreamed of a career in health care. She wanted to help people.

After graduating from Greenwood High School, Logan took her first step into the health care field by earning her certified nursing assistant certificate (CNA). She enrolled at a four-year university, but found it wasn’t the right fit for her. So she transferred to Piedmont Technical College where she found the path to the career she had been looking for.

Health Science Transfer Program

By working closely with an advisor, students can select options in Medical Laboratory Technology, Physical Therapy Assistant or Dental Hygiene. Successful completion of the core requirements and the selected advising option will qualify students to be considered for a one-plus-one program leading to an Associate in Applied Science degree at Greenville Technical College.

School of Health Science

Although many people think of doctors and nurses when they think of health care, these positions are just a small segment of the health care industry. Many other disciplines—from cardiovascular technicians to massage therapists and surgical technologists—are necessary to make the system work.
