The Honors Program

Piedmont Technical College’s Honors Program is open to A.A., A.S., and University Studies students with a GPA of at least 3.5 and at least 12 college credit hours—including dual enrolled students. Our purpose is to expand Piedmont Technical College’s vibrant learning community by creating a cutting-edge, collaborative Honors Program dedicated to intellectual growth, accessibility, and data-informed decision-making to graduate innovative, proactive, lifelong learners who will meet the current and emerging trends of South Carolina’s workforce.

Program Information

Through an array of courses and seminars, Honors Program students will participate in community service projects, explore intriguing topics, and participate in leadership and travel opportunities that broaden their intellectual perspectives.

PTC’s Honors Program creates full and comprehensive educational experiences for students—opening their worlds to knowledge, opportunities, and experiences they would not have otherwise.

As a PTC honors student, you’ll receive a world-class education during the first two years of your work toward a bachelor’s degree that will prepare you for excellence, no matter which academic path you choose to pursue during your junior and senior years at a four-year institution.

Academics/Current Course Rotation

Each student must take at least four Honors courses from at least two different disciplines in order to graduate from the program. Students are not permitted to register for more than two Honors courses a semester. If the student is on probation, they are limited to one Honors course for the semester. Students are not permitted to withdraw from more than two Honors courses during their duration in the program. Below is the tentative course rotation:

  • Summer 2024
    • ART 105
  • Fall 2024
    • MAT 120
    • ENG 201
    • ART 101
    • HIS 201

 

Enrichment

During each of your two years in the honors program, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your horizons through travel experiences and service learning projects.

Transfer Opportunities

After being a member of PTC’s Honors Program, students will be exceptionally well prepared to transfer into a four-year college or university. Some institutions may allow students to transfer PTC honors credit directly into their Honors Program, for a full, four-year honors experience.

How to Apply

There are four steps to the application process.

1) Complete and submit a formal application by clicking here: Apply Here

2) The application will prompt students to complete a one-page response to one of five questions. Be sure to attach an edited copy of the file to the application. 

3) Students will need to submit the name and email address of one PTC employee (staff or faculty) to complete a recommendation. This person must be able to address academic achievements, leadership skills, creativity, etc. Be sure to ask before putting someone as your recommender.

4) Once your application has been reviewed, students will be contacted to interview with the Honors Program Committee. Only serious candidates with completed applications will be contacted. After the interview, students will be notified of their acceptance status.

Entrance Requirements

  • Open to AA, AS, and University Studies Certificate 
  • GPA must be a minimum of 3.5 to join, and students must maintain at least a 3.2 in order to graduate with Honors.
  • Applicants must have completed at least 12 college credit hours.
