PTC Honors Program Inducts 10 Students

Piedmont Technical College (PTC) inducted 10 students into its newly restored Honors Program at a special ceremony in August. The new inductees are:  Etana Baker of Hodges, Emily Galloway of Laurens, Jeremy Glasgow of Newberry, Jessica Herndon of Newberry, Tira Owens of Clinton, Caleb Riddle of Newberry, Audrey Shepherd of Greenwood, Sarah Shore of Saluda, Charvis Stevens of Greenwood, and Daisy Villalobos of Newberry.

Trentsie Williams, president of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, was the keynote speaker. She encouraged the inductees to lead in the classroom, on campus, in the community, and among their networking peers.

“This Honors Program is designed to stretch you in a number of ways. Increase your critical thinking skills. Enlarge your social circle. Become more involved in your campus community,” she said. “All of these things can only happen when you are willing to embrace change.”
Williams went on to challenge the students to be bold and curious, to embrace new experiences.

“College is a time to step out of your comfort zone and explore new horizons. Say ‘yes’ to opportunities that scare you a little, whether it’s joining a new club or taking a class in an unfamiliar subject,” Williams said. “Every experience, no matter how small, contributes to our personal and intellectual growth.”

The PTC Honors Program is open to Associate in Arts, Associate in Sciences, Dual Enrolled, and University Studies Certificate students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and who have completed at least 12 college credit hours. Applicants must produce an essay, a letter of recommendation, and participate in an interview. The program accepts applications once a year during the fall semester.

“Our faculty enthusiastically advocated for the college to reactivate its Honors Program. The response was phenomenal,” said Dr. Keli Fewox, vice president of academic affairs at PTC. “These 10 students have demonstrated a commitment to scholarship excellence and intellectual growth. They also possess maturity beyond their years. We are very excited to induct them.”

The latest deadline to apply for the Honors Program is Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. For more information, please visit www.ptc.edu/honors.
