Students at Piedmont Technical College recently headed back to class. Interested students still have time to enroll for Late Term, which begins February 19.

Two members of Piedmont Technical College’s Continuing Education and Economic Development division have been recognized for their outstanding work by the South Carolina Association for Higher Continuing Education (SCAHCE).

The Piedmont Education & Business Alliance recently hosted its eighth annual Guidance Standards and Career Development Workshop at Piedmont Technical College. The event drew nearly 100 school counselors and career development professionals from 10 school districts in Abbeville, Clinton, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Newberry, Ninety Six, Saluda and Ware Shoals.

Piedmont Technical College is expanding its industrial technology offerings in Laurens County with the addition of four new classes in the machine tool technology program.

The four new classes are designed to introduce students to CNC (Computer Numerical Control) based manufacturing job requirements. These classes are considered the first step in learning CNC technical skills or may serve as a refresher for those people who already work in a machining environment.

Like many people across the state of South Carolina, Wade Nicholson has had to reinvent himself. He has found the tools for that reinvention at Piedmont Technical College.

Nicholson graduated from Saluda High School and went on to college at the University of South Carolina. College wasn’t what he wanted at the time, so he began working for a large textile manufacturer.

Piedmont Technical College pottery students recently hosted their fifth annual Clayworks Christmas Show and Sale. The exhibit and sale featured work designed and made by students enrolled in the Professional Clay certificate program at the college’s Center for Creative Economies in Edgefield.

Recent graduates of Piedmont Technical College’s nursing program at the Greenwood campus were recognized in a pinning ceremony in December. Nearly 200 students graduated from the Piedmont Tech nursing program in 2010.

Piedmont Technical College’s Steve Coleman, director of College Outreach, and Mike Rodgers, automotive technology program director/instructor, were among the 16 technical college employees from across the state of South Carolina who recently graduated from the Technical College System’s Leadership Cohort.

Anita Murphy has discovered that finding your dreams sometimes takes a leap of faith – and a gentle push.

She had obtained her GED after dropping out of high school but she knew she wanted something else. Murphy knew that to go to a four-year college, she would need an associate degree.
