The Multipurpose building at Piedmont Technical College was the setting for the culmination of many dreams for the more than 300 Piedmont Technical College graduates who took center stage in two commencement ceremonies.
Dr. Ray Brooks, president, welcomed graduates, family and guests to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates.
Piedmont Technical College will be holding two summer commencement exercises on August 2.
Commencement exercises will begin at 3 p.m. for Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, business and information technology, industrial and engineering technology graduates. A 7 p.m. ceremony will be held for health science and nursing graduates. Both commencement exercises will be held in the Multipurpose building at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood.
Construction for the new Newberry County Campus is nearing completion.
“We are excited about the new campus in Newberry,” said Jennifer Wilbanks, dean of county campuses. “The construction is coming along beautifully and we are still on target to open the new campus in January of 2013 for the Spring semester.”
Most of the facility is 80-90 percent complete including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and roofing. Work continues on painting, landscaping and windows. The project is on track to be completed by the first part of October.
Piedmont Technical College offers the lowest tuition cost of any college within the region, but for many students, even affordable tuition rates may seem out of reach. Assistance is available in many forms, including one of the newest scholarship programs, the Hi-Tech Scholars Program.

More than 500 graduates of Piedmont Technical College will receive certificates, diplomas and associate degrees during spring commencement exercises on June 1.
Commencement exercises will begin at 7 p.m. at the Finis Horne Arena at Lander University, and graduates as well as guests are encouraged to arrive early. Once occupancy reaches capacity, additional guests will not be permitted to enter.

Piedmont Technical College is expanding its mechatronics program to the high schools in Newberry.
At the urging of local industry, the mechatronics program has been added to the curriculum of the Newberry County Career Center.
