Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes is currently looking for an Apprentice Funeral Director/Embalmer.
Must be currently enrolled in a certified program of licensure for Funeral Director and/or Embalmer and/or be a declared apprentice. Must Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills including interpersonal, organizational and telecommunications. Exhibits ability and aptitude to learn and progress as a potential licensed professional. Possession of a valid driver’s license with insurable driving record required.
This position is primarily responsible to assist professional staff in providing designated services. Duties will include: assisting in making transfers, embalming, dressing, casketing and transporting the deceased. Additional duties may include: providing funeral director staff support functions, as well as general care and maintenance of facility and equipment. This position/individual will be always under the close supervision and coordination of a senior staff member.
Duties:
- Commits to a standard of readiness to receive and process first calls and make transfers.
- Funeral Service Arrangements: assist professional staff by meeting with family members to prepare and coordinate the funeral services of the deceased.
- Assists professional staff by coordinating funeral service arrangements to prepare for services of the deceased.
- Facility Service Support: provides designated support services in delivery of company activities and services.
- Visitation: assists professional staff to coordinate funeral services and arranges for visitation. Assures that family needs are continually monitored and attended to during visitation.
- Funeral Service: assists in providing funeral services at the funeral home chapel, church and/or cemetery.
- Driving and Escorting: transports deceased, client family members, visitors, equipment, and staff as needed.
- Preparation: assists licensed associate to receive and prepare deceased for embalming.
- Embalming: assists licensed associate in the embalming of the deceased for visitation, subsequent burial or transportation.
- Apprenticeship: commits to the requirements and the standards of South Carolina’s apprenticeship program.
- Ethics and Confidentiality: maintains the highest standards of ethics, morality, and confidentiality at all times.
- Health and Safety: adheres to company policies for the health and safety of personnel.
- Working Relationships: Interacts with other associates to facilitate positive, productive working relationships.
- Performance and Professionalism: consistently exhibits satisfactory levels of performance.
