Wages/Salary: $46,169.00 - $85,417.00 Annually

Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in engineering and four (4) years of journey-level engineering work experience; or a bachelor's degree in engineering technology and six (6) years of journey-level engineering work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A master's degree in engineering and two (2) years of entry-level engineering work experience may be substituted for the required experience. Necessary Special Requirement: Selected positions may require registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of SC as prescribed in SC State Code Sections 40-22-20 and 40-22-30. A valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Job Description:

Supervises the construction and layout of all assigned projects to ensure they are constructed in accordance with the contract, contract special provisions, plans and the standard specifications. Evaluates contractor's construction practices and procedures to ensure they meet the
Departments current standards. Supervises the employees in the Laurens Construction office and assigns construction projects to employees. These projects consist of layout, construction inspection, sampling of materials, final measurements, compiling and computing supportive notes, compiling final plans and miscellaneous notes. Reviews all reports including EEO requirements, daily diaries, weekly, monthly and final construction reports. Checks monthly pay estimates, final construction reports and monthly trainee reports. Acquiring utility agreement and sketches from public and private utility companies for relocating their facilities that are located in the line of construction. Responds to District Engineer, SCDOT personnel in Columbia,contractors and related parties with written correspondence. Responds to concerns and complaints from property owners who have property adjacent to construction projects and complaints from traveling public. Evaluates and recommends personnel actions, approves time sheets, and responsible for making sure the office and the staff are well equipped to perform these duties. Provides expert testimony in court for defense of department. Expert witness in civil lawsuits not involving the department.
