A 10th grade education; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License are available.
Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance tasks as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairing bridges and driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Assists in the installation of driveways, using hand tools, hand tamp, places aggregates, removes mailboxes and reinstalls and assists with placing large section of pipe. Trains to operate a 5 yard standard dump truck, and flatbed trucks for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, cement, pipe construction materials and debris. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection. Operates chain saw in the removal of trees from right-of-way. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance. Trains in the operation of heavier equipment such as tandem dump trucks, front-end loaders, motorgraders and backhoes. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.
