Wages/Salary: Hire Range: $39,228 – $50,930 annually

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and 2 years performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience. Necessary Special Requirements: Certification by the Department of Public Safety in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976. Must have be a graduate of the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Must have a valid drivers license. Must have strong skills in providing excellent customer service and demonstrate strong ethics. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques, procedures, and of the laws one is responsible for enforcing. Have the ability to correctly evaluate situations and make good decisions. Have the ability to deal firmly, yet tactfully, with the general public and to interact well with members of the University community and fellow employees. Must have the ability to supervise others and make decisions independently. Maintain level of proficiency in the use of firearms, intermediate weapons and defensive driving. Such training and experience would normally be gained through job related experience and at the SCCJA.

Job Description:

Under limited supervision, the Law Enforcement Officer will be responsible for conducting routine investigations of crimes or suspected criminal activity committed on or involving Lander University to ensure enforcement of laws related to public safety and welfare. Responsible for coordinating the departments crime prevention and community relations functions by checking special events/sporting events calendars and working events when not conducting investigations. Responsible for coordinating the departments criminal cases through preliminary hearings, indictments, and presentations for General Sessions Court. Provide routine patrol to provide community oriented policing for the campus.

Schedule:
University Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday
To include nights and weekends, on-call, early mornings
Position Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week
