A 10th grade education and four and one-half (4.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. This position requires a valid

Job Description:

Diagnoses, repairs or replaces parts as necessary on all automotive gasoline enginestransmissions, brakes, exhaust systems, cylinder heads, valves, timing belts, and cooling systems. Operates and performs testing with new generation start tester and monitor testing equipment in order to diagnose problems with various on board computer systems.Repairsdiesel power equipment to include motorgraders, backhoes, loaders, roller, AMZ machines,tractors, and mowing equipment. Repairs diesel engines to include cooling system, fuel system,transmissions, rear ends, hydraulics systems gear box, steering, engines, drive trains, PTO and other various types of repairs. Performs preventive maintenance as required. Diagnoses the repairs or replacement of parts on all diesel powered equipment assigned to SCDOT. Performs maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic motors, pumps,cylinders, mowing equipment, tractors, motograders, rollers and AMZ machines. Performs welding and fabrication as needed for repairs on various equipment making modifications to equipment to improve the production of utilizations. Performs electric welding or gas welding.Performs as supervisor in absence of shop supervisor. Produces daily records of work performed and materials and equipment used and records in HMMS. Operates lowboy in hauling equipment from road to repair shop or when out sourcing repairs. Performs other related duties as necessary.
