Requirements:

A 10th grade education and four (4) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.

Job Description:

Diagnoses the repairs or replacement of parts on all diesel powered equipment assigned to SCDOT. Performs maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic motors, pumps, cylinders, mowing equipment, tractors, motorgraders, rollers and AMZ machines. Repairs diesel power equipment to include motorgraders, backhoes, loaders, roller, AMZ machines, tractors, mowing equipment. Repairs diesel engines to include cooling system, fuel system, transmissions, rear ends, hydraulics systems, gear box, steering, engines, drive trains,PTO and other various types of repairs. Performs preventive maintenance as required. Performs routine and general maintenance and repairs to automotive vehicles. Pulls and installs engines, removes and reinstalls cylinder heads, valve trains, manifolds, transmissions and rear ends. Performs work on all electrical systems. Installs, repairs or replaces computers, alternators, strobe lights, starters, antilock brakes and DMIs. Performs welding and fabrication as needed for repairs to all equipment. Performs emergency repairs to all equipment that have failures on roadways or construction projects. Ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and/or disposed as per DHEC regulations. Containers must be properly labeled. Diagnoses, repairs or replaces parts as necessary on all automotive gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, exhaust and monitor testing equipment in order to diagnose problems with various on board computer systems. Diagnoses and replaces vehicle on-board computers, oxygen sensors, coolant sensors, throttle position sensors, crank and cam position components associated with the computer controlled vehicles. Performs other duties as required.
