Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent with nine to twelve months of experience in meter reading and servicing; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a valid South Carolina driver?s license.
Under general supervision, performs routine service work and general repair work to utility meter. Work involves reading electric, water, and effluent flow meters; and recording consumption by utility customer. Reports to the Meter Service Supervisor.
Reads electric, water, and effluent flow meters on assigned route and records readings; makes special reading as required.
Cuts electric and water services on/off as directed; terminates service for non-payment; services defective utility meters and meter boxes; assists in assigning account number to utility customers.
Operates, maintains, and cleans service vehicles.
Performs mailroom activities as directed.
Receives, prepares, reviews, and submits various reports and records including meter reading, abnormal reading, work orders, vehicle inspection reports, and general office correspondence.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as meter reading in handheld, work order from list, cut off list, work order for the field, supply order, and information on problematic animals.
Refers to handheld documentation, City policy, maps, calendar, procedure manuals, regulations, publication and reference texts, etc.
Operates a variety of equipment such as City truck, handheld meter reading device, electric meter, water meter, postage machine, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as water meter key, wrenches, electric meter puller, pliers, hammer, screwdriver, etc.; a variety of supplies such as electrical meters, water meters, hand pump, electric meter disconnect, general office supplies etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Iton Handheld software, Utility Billing software, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Meter Service Supervisor, Finance employees, other City employees, customer, and the general public.
Runs errands as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
