Requirements:

Candidates must possess and maintain DOT medical certification and a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with an excellent driving record. Graduation from high school, with experience in bus or similar vehicle operation, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide knowledge, skills and abilities of demonstrated, substantive experience in the operation of large buses required. Ability to travel within South Carolina with some overnight assignments is required.

Additional Requirements: Ability to sit, drive and maneuver long-wheel-based vehicles for extended periods of time. Considerable ability to lend assistance to passengers with disabilities; ability to provide lifting/moving assistance to disabled persons (some wheelchair- bound) as they are boarding or deboarding the bus.

Job Description:

The Greenwood Genetic Center has an opening for a part-time bus driver for the Mobile Genetics Lab. The Mobile Genetics Lab, also known as the Gene Machine, is a 41 foot custom coach equipped as a mobile science laboratory. The Gene Machine allows students to engage in fun, entertaining and educational scenarios where they have the opportunity to learn about genetic traits and disorders, understand the lab techniques used in making a diagnosis as well as consider the ethical implications of testing and explore careers in the life sciences. The successful candidate would travel with a team of Genetic Education Instructors.

The primary responsibilities include driving the Mobile Genetics Lab within South Carolina, completing forms and records related to Mobile Lab operations, functions and maintenance and working cooperatively with students, school system personnel, GGC employees and the general public. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of bus operations and equipment, motor vehicle laws and safety standards. Assignments will be rotated with one additional driver on the team.

 

Schedule:
Traveling approximately two weeks per month (4 days per week).
