Education: Graduate of a school for Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or a successor accrediting authority.
Experience: Minimum of two to three years experience as a Respiratory Therapist; candidates with less experience and new graduates may also be considered.
Number and Type of Employees Supervised: None
Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: BLS and RRT required. Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in SC. Certification required may include any or all of the following, depending on unit: ACLS, NRP, FCCS, NPS or PALS.
Special Training: Must be able to effectively work in a team environment. Strong communication, computer and organizational skills required.
Age of Patients Rendered Care: All Age Groups
This position performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician's order and departmental policy. Works independently in all critical care settings and has successfully completed formal in-house training courses for performance of advanced procedures. Communicates regularly with Nursing and Physician staff regarding care of the patient. Must possess skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. May act in lieu of Respiratory Therapist III. All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Baptist Easley's values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
? Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician's order, departmental policy, and the Respiratory Care Guidelines (RT Consult).
? Assists with training for students, new team members, nurses, and other team members.
? Able to obtain blood gasses from all sites. Analyzes and reports results accurately. QC maintenance of ABG device when necessary.
? Able to initiate and manage all types of airways and associated equipment.
? Accurately and completely documents and charges for respiratory care procedures and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
? Adheres to department time and attendance standards.
? Effectively communicates with all members of the healthcare team. Provides a complete and accurate report. Makes recommendations as appropriate.
? Able to initiate, monitor and manage patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
? Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives.
? Communicates well with supervisors and lead therapists.
