Qualifications: Apprentice Technical Specialist - High School diploma accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U. S. Dept. of Education or GED., a valid driver?s license with a good driving history, good PC skills to include a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and the ability to install software.
Technical Specialist I ? Must have all the qualifications for an Apprentice Technical Specialist AND Two (2) yr. Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a Technical field OR successful completion of Penn Foster (ICS) T&D Apprentice Technician correspondence course OR four (4) yrs. exp. as an SCE&G Journeymen Lineman or SCE&G Journeyman Substation Electrician
Technical Specialist II ? Must have all the qualifications for a Technical Specialist I AND four (4) yrs. experience as a Technical Specialist I AND successful completion of Penn Foster (ICS) T&D Apprentice Technician correspondence course OR Ten (10) years? experience as a SCE&G Journeyman Lineman or SCE&G Journeyman Substation Electrician AND successful completion of Penn Foster (ICS) T&D Apprentice Technician correspondence course
Technical Specialist III ? Must have all the qualifications for a Technical Specialist II AND six (6) yrs. experience as a Technical Specialist II AND successful completion of Penn Foster (ICS) T&D Apprentice Technician correspondence course. Other Information: Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), SCE&G construction specifications and standards, and SCE&G safety manual and distribution engineering manual are a plus. Experience interacting with customers is preferred. Applicants must be available to work after hours, scheduled overtime, and call out work. Selected candidates will be required to live within a 30 minute drive of the Columbia District.

Job Description:

Responsibilities: A Technical Specialist position, available in the Metro Columbia District is responsible for designing additions and modifications to South Carolina Electric and Gas? electrical distribution system. Designs include certain specifications and calculations including pole height and class, conductor size, transformer size and connections, and anchor and guy wire size, among others. Also includes preparation of work orders, which consists of detailed construction drawings plus estimates of material and labor required for completion of work. The qualified candidate is also called upon to restore service during emergencies including switching inside of substations and on the distribution system. An additional responsibility is regular face to face interaction with customers.
