A 10th grade education and three and one-half (3.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class ?A? Commercial Driver?s License are available.
Acts as a lead worker of a crew in removing fallen trees from roadway, cutting dead trees on right-of-way, and low hanging limbs over roadway. Acts as lead worker and crew leader performing various duties within a section of county such as ditching, clearing of rights-of-way, and patching. Assumes supervisor's responsibilities and duties during their absence. Reviews vehicle maintenance record and reports needed maintenance. Conducts safety inspections on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as outlined in equipment and SCDOT servicing intervals. Conducts and documents pre-operation or pre-trip inspections. Devises a schedule for work to be performed by maintenance crew. Instructs crew members daily safety practices. Practices such as flagging operations, wearing of safety equipment, vehicle safety, or when working with hazardous material and waste. Sets up traffic control according to SCMUTCD standards to warn motorists of road work ahead. Operates tandem dump truck in hauling maintenance and construction materials such as concrete pipes, asphalt, and dirt. Produces daily records of work performed and materials used, records such as HMMS and the maintenance requests and complaints forms. Operates ditching machine and motorgrader during ditching operations. Operates various equipment to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs other job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.
