Job Description:

The employee Performs foundation inspection of driven piles and drilled shafts for bridge construction. Ensures all approved methods of installation and SCDOT design specifications are met, including load bearing capacity of driven piles and correct bearing strata of drilled shaft foundations are obtained. Inspects placement of drill shaft concrete. Performs primary inspection on various aspects of bridge construction, including column construction, cap and deck construction by ensuring correct placement of reinforcing steel, concrete placement, verifying dimensions, and checking elevations. Inspects roadway construction, including the placement of fill material in embankments. Performs compaction tests utilizing the Nuclear Density Gauge to ensure contract requirements are met. Directs contractors to alter work processes to ensure SCDOT specifications are met in regard to acceptability of embankment materials and moisture content. Performs asphalt roadway inspection by checking rates of placement, visually and using a nuclear density gauge to determine acceptability of finished product, checks rates of tack dispensed, monitors roller patterns, monitors replacement of painted lines. Keeps all required documentation for quantity verification for partial pay estimates to contractor and final as-built plans. Performs traffic control monitoring on assigned projects to ensure the contract specifications are met in regard to permanent sign placement, correct work zone signing, and directs contractor to make corrections, if needed. Ensures all required samples and certifications on assigned projects are obtained and kept up to date. Ensures all certifications and sampling in Site Manager as necessary. Enters all field data into Site Manager as required of an inspector. Performs detailed work with total station and associated software including roadway centerline re-establishment; checking alignment and grade of work performed by contractors under contract; furnishes line and grades on road and bridge projects; references critical control points on the project including bench marks, PC's and PT's. Assists with wage regulation interviews and ensures all posters are displayed as required by Federal regulations. Performs EEO/Stage Type Inspection Interviews as required by contract. Performs additional duties as required by Assistant and Resident Construction Engineers.

Schedule:
FTE Full-Time: Monday - Friday (8:30 - 5:00)
