Associates degree in Horticulture with two years of experience in a horticultural area; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Preference is for a Bachelor's degree in horticulture, education, or a related field. Ability to work productively on a team and independently. Prefer experience in a public garden. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver?s license.
Under general supervision, is directly responsible for maintaining the children?s garden and the various botanical education programs offered. These programs include on-site interpretation and presentations, garden camps, guided tours, school services programs, outreach programs to garden clubs and similar organizations, and special events. Performs a wide variety of duties necessary for the horticultural care of the children?s garden, including planting, monitoring pests, pruning, pesticide application, watering plants, mowing grass and removing weeds. Assists horticulture staff with extensive gardening projects in the Zoo and Garden when required.
