Department Marketing Statement

South Carolina Electric and Gas seeks and Electrical and Instrumentation Controls Mechanic at its Fairfield Pumped Storage Station in Jenkinsville, SC (Fairfield County).  Fairfield Pumped Storage Station is a hydroelectric generating plant.

 

Responsibilities

Responsible for the troubleshooting, installation, operation, and testing of instrumentation & controls, switchgear, and electrical equipment within and around the plant.

Performs instrumentation-troubleshooting, print and logic diagram reading, maintaining of PLC based control systems (including Allen-Bradley RS Logics 5000 & ABB VFD drives), hydraulic systems, and pneumatics.

Requires the ability to maintain and troubleshoot electro mechanical devices, and relay logic.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining, troubleshooting, installation, testing, operation and maintenance of 3 phase electrical power systems, 480 and 13.8k-volt switchgear, AC/DC motors, as well has electrical conduit and stainless-steel tubing installation.

The candidate must have the ability to operate test equipment such as HART communicator, breaker test set, low resistance tester, and high voltage tester.

This position also performs basic overhead crane operation and rigging activities as needed.

The position also requires support of other Northern Hydro’s and Peaking plants on an as needed basis.

 

Qualifications

This position requires a High School Diploma from an accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED with at least two years of work experience involving industrial instrumentation, controls, AC/DC power systems, and electrical troubleshooting in a plant environment.

A two-year associate degree from an accredited college or university, in Industrial Instrumentation and Controls or Electrical or a Combination of both is preferred.

A strong background in maintaining, programming, and troubleshooting Rockwell Automation RS LOGIX controllers with associated function block and ladder logic is preferred.

This position also requires experience operating personal computers and a fundamental knowledge of windows-based software.

A valid driver’s license required.

Good physical condition with the ability to work in confined spaces including the ability to wear a respirator and maintain annual respirator qualification is required.

Requires heavy lifting, climbing tall structures at extreme heights

Ability to work overtime and call-outs.

Ability to work during inclement weather is also required. 

The selected candidate must live within 1 hour of the plant to respond to call outs.
