Qualifications

Must be in the process of obtaining an Associate degree in Engineering Technology with an emphasis in either Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or Civil discipline with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation.

Must have strong computer skills and good oral and written communication skills.

Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned work location.
Responsibilities
Selected students will gain Utility knowledge in the following areas based upon student’s area of interest and business need:

Planning and designing for additions and modifications to SCE&G’s electric distribution, electric transmission, electric substation or protective relaying systems.

Working with survey crews to collect field data necessary to support the design process, update and modify design drawings.

Electric substation work includes assisting with transformer testing, to include power factor and oil quality testing.

Electric transmission work includes evaluating License Agreements and Joint-use Agreements based on field assessments and/or engineering evaluations, material procurement, and inventory reconciliations.

Protective relaying includes installing, testing, calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting protective relaying, SCADA and control systems in electrical substations.

Preparation of minor work orders, which consist of detailed construction drawings plus estimates of material and labor required for construction projects on the Electric Distribution System.

Field Operations supporting line crews, technicians and engineers performing a variety of functions to include facility installations, system operations, and outage restoration.

Students must be available to travel and work outside normal work hours.
