Requirements:

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent with nine to twelve months of fire services or
fire training experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must have successfully completed required courses and certification; may be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license. Job Description:

The primary function of a City of Newberry Firefighter is to protect the community from disaster situations, including house and building fires, and promote a safe environment within the City of Newberry. This position also participates in fire prevention and inspection activities, equipment and facility maintenance, and training dealing with all phases of fire prevention, suppression, inspection, rescue and emergency operation. Under regular supervision, performs firefighting, hazardous materials release response, and technical rescues in order to protect and safeguard lives and property of Newberry citizens. Work involves handling the responsibility for ensuring the readiness and condition of all department resources to include emergency response vehicles, hand tools and equipment, and buildings and grounds. The position reports to the Fire Captain.
