Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties operating heavy equipment in order to assist with the streets and grounds maintenance activities of the Public Works Department. Work involves maintaining equipment and vehicles as needed; and handling the responsibility of overseeing workers as directed. Reports to the Public Works Services Supervisor. Operates a variety of heavy and light equipment including front-end loader, packer truck, trash loader,
dump truck, street sweeper, backhoe, packer truck, bushhog, lawn mower, tractor, weed eater, sprayer, leaf machine, etc. in maintaining and cleaning streets and grounds; drives to transfer station or designated area and dumps trash and garbage. Performs street maintenance to include patching potholes, storm drain maintenance, sidewalk maintenance, construction of driveways, mowing grass, edging sidewalks and curbs, ditch maintenance, picking up leaves and limbs, hauling gravel and dirt, and general cleaning of parking lots and all rights of
way. Performs general maintenance duties to trucks including checking belts, brakes, fuel, oil, and other liquids; cleans trucks. Inspects vehicles; completes vehicle inspection reports route reports, and daily work reports in order to
document work performed; files documents and reports. Responds to after hour emergencies as required. Refers to personnel policy, operational manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, maps, etc. Operates mobile radio; uses time clock to record hours worked. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Public Works Services Supervisor, department staff, other City employees, and the general public.
