A 10th grade education and one and one-half (1.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.
Trains in the operation of the combination tractor mowers (sickle/rotary) in cutting right-of-way and shoulders. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Conducts and documents pre-operation vehicle or equipment inspection. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor. Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance task as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairing bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Operates standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as outlined in equipment specifications. Trains in the operation of ten-wheel dump truck, 5 to 10 yard standard dump truck, and flatbed truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris.
