A 10th grade education and one and one-half (1.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.
Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance task as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders,patching potholes, making base repairs, repairing bridges, and laying sideline/ cross line pipe. Operates standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor. Removes litter, debris and dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way. Flags traffic during repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Trains in the operation of self propelled steel wheel and pneumatic rollers, to compact and solidify fill material. Trains in the operation of medium duty equipment such as bucket trucks, tack truck, and asphalt injection patching machine. Trains in the operation of tandem dump truck. Conducts and documents pre-operation vehicle/equipment inspection.
