Highway Maintenance Worker II - Medium Equipment Operator 106763 (61033863)

Operates medium sized equipment such as skid steer, tractor with batwing mowers, front end loader, and combination tractor with side mounted mowers in roadside and right-of-way management operations in conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance operations. Performs skilled manual labor in various duties such as the removal of fallen trees from roadway, cutting dead trees on right-of-way and low hanging limbs over roadway. May assist with directing mowing and right-of-way clearing operations. Operates tandem and single axle dump trucks with trailers for hauling materials and transporting equipment for maintenance and construction operations. Operates and maintains powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance related to assigned tasks such as tree and vegetation removal, cleaning pipes and ditches, limb trimming, weed eating, facility maintenance, and litter and dead animal removal. Conducts safety inspection on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Monitors the preventive maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Operates heavier equipment such as motor graders, backhoes, slope mowers, and other specialized mowing equipment for maintaining and clearing vegetation and debris. Operates both portable tank-mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
