A 10th grade education and three and one-half (3.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.
Performs skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance to motors, transmissions, brakes, cooling and electrical systems on automotive and heavy equipment. Performs maintenance checks and repairs on hydraulics and air systems on vehicles as needed. Performs wiring repairs, brake jobs and tune-ups when required on vehicles. Performs welding repairs on heavy equipment in the shop and also on the road as needed. This includes arc and mig welding. Ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and/or disposed of per DHEC regulations. This also includes properly labeling containers. Coordinates clean-up of repair shop work area for facilities inspections and throughout regular work hours. Assists as necessary during hazardous weather conditions. Performs other duties as assigned.
