Requirements:

A 10th grade education and three and one-half (3.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.


A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.

Job Description:

Responsible for diagnosis, repairs, and/or replacement of components to automotive, heavy, and light duty equipment; including automotive gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, exhaust systems, cylinder heads, valves, timing belts, and cooling systems. Operates and performs testing with new generation start tester and monitor testing equipment in order to diagnose problems with various on board computer systems. Diagnoses and makes repairs to electrical systems and hydraulic systems to ensure proper and safe operation of dump trucks, pick-up trucks, cars, and equipment. Installs, repairs or replaces computers, alternators, strobe lights, starters, anti-lock brakes and DMIs. Performs routine and general maintenance and repairs to automotive vehicles. Rebuilds and replaces brake systems, power steering pumps, and power steering units. Makes carburetor adjustments and performs engine tune-ups to ensure proper and safe operation of equipment and vehicles. Ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and or disposed as per DHEC regulations. Ensures containers are properly labeled. Diagnoses and repairs all fuel system components for gasoline and diesel powered equipment with or without vehicle on-board computers. Diagnoses and replaces vehicle on-board computers, oxygen sensors, coolant sensors, throttle position sensors, crank and cam position components associated with the computer controlled vehicles. Repairs vehicles during service calls that require repair before movement. Performs other duties as required. Performs welding and fabrication as needed for repairs on various equipment making modifications to equipment to improve the production of utilization. Performs electric welding or gas welding.
