- High school diploma or GED with five (5) to eleven (11) months related experience in grounds maintenance; or equivalent combination.
- Ability to work outside every day, all year
- Ability to lift and/or carry weights up to one hundred pounds.
- Valid SC driver’s license.
The City of Newberry is looking for a person that loves working outdoors and has general maintenance background and/or landscaping background to join our Public Works Department - Street Maintenance team. Some work involves maintaining and operating various handheld and medium to light equipment including, but not limited to, tractor, backhoe, weed eater, front-end loader, lawn mower, and bush hog for general maintenance in the City. In this role, some days’ tasks would include replacing street signs, cleaning and repairing storm drains, cleaning City buildings and/or parking lots, spreading dirt and painting.
As a member of the Public Works department some additional job functions will include, to respond to afterhours emergencies as needed, assist as a Sanitation Worker as needed, and apply herbicide with handheld or motorized equipment.
